Wikisubtitles 3.0 launched
At last, wikisubtitles 3.0 has been launched. First of all, we are IN BETA VERSION now. It has been a very hard work, almost the 80% percent of the code has been rewritten and can exist errors. As ever, please report them at the forum.
Everything has needed to be faster because I’m moving to another country for a few months for work on Sunday, and I don’t know how much I can be connected to the internet. So, I had two choices: wait for comming back to Spain, or update the site, and cross my fingers hoping to don’t have many bugs ;), because I can not correct them as fast as ever.
That said, here are the some of the new features:
- Karma. Each user has its own karma. It’s calculated in function of the work did on wikisubtitles and the users votes. At this moment (can be changed) each user receives 1 point for file/version uploaded, 1 to 10 points for each translations (edited_lines/total_lines * 10), and 1 point for each vote (or -1 for negative votes). This karma is used when a file is downloaded, you can choose the ‘karma based version’, so if there are more than a version of a line, the “most karmic” one will be downloaded. Due I couldn’t calculate the “karmic lines” before the 3.0 version, the ‘karmic version’ for past subtitles (before the 3.0) are the same than the ‘most updated’, but not in the new translations.
- Sequence comments. Now can exist comments for every line on wikisubtitles.
- Comments by version/language. Now the comments are associated to the version/language, instead of “general comments” for all versions.
- Avatars. By default, the avatar is our God, Chuck Norris, but you can change it at “my account”. 50×50 pixels.
- ‘Friend sites’. When a subtitle is uploaded, a ‘friend site’ can be selected, so an icon with a link to the original site will appear next to the version name. If you wish yo appear in the ‘friend sites’ list, please e-mail me.
- An the most important. Everything has been redesigned and everything uses Ajax. I think ‘the GUI’ has been improved a lot.
I’ve used wikisubtitles 2.0 code for the most ‘delicated’ things as finishing translations, so I hope to not have bugs in this part.
Due the big change, the language files need to be translated again, sorry. At this moment only English and Spanish are available. As the last time, if you want to help us to translate wikisubtitles 3.0 to your language, please translate this php file (or this one in Spanish). Sorry for the lost job! And please, save the file with UTF-8 charset!
The source code will be published in a few days, after I correct some initial bugs I have not noticed. Now it’s easy to install in other servers, so it fully support installations in not root folders. Will be published with GPLv3 license as 2.0 did.
I hope you like this version….
